Lycopodium annotinum

''Lycopodium annotinum'' L. (Bristly club-moss or stiff clubmoss) is a species of clubmoss native to forests of the colder parts of North America (Greenland, St. Pierre & Miquelon, all 10 provinces and all 3 territories of Canada, Alaska, and mountains of the contiguous United States),〔(Biota of North America Program 2014 state-level distribution map, ''Spinulum annotinum'' ) 〕 as well as Asia (China, Russia, Japan, Korea, Nepal, Assam),〔(Flora of China, ''Lycopodium annotinum'' Linnaeus, Sp. Pl. 2: 1103. 1753. 多穗石松 duo sui shi song )〕 and most of Europe.〔(Altervista Flora Italiana, Licopodio gineprino, ''Lycopodium annotinum'' L. ) includes photos and European distribution map〕
''Lycopodium annotinum'' is a common and widespread club-moss spreading by means of horizontal stems running along the surface of the ground. It is usually unbranched or sparingly branch, each branch containing a cone at the top. Leaves have minute teeth on the edges of the leaves.〔(Flora of North America, ''Lycopodium annotinum'' Linnaeus, Sp. Pl. 2: 1103. 1753. Bristly club-moss, lycopode interrompu )〕〔( S.G. Aiken, M.J. Dallwitz, L.L. Consaul, C.L. McJannet, R.L. Boles, G.W. Argus, J.M. Gillett, P.J. Scott, R. Elven, M.C. LeBlanc, L.J. Gillespie, A.K. Brysting, H. Solstad, and J.G. Harris. 2011. Flora of the Canadian Arctic Archipelago ''Lycopodium annotinum'' L. subsp. ''alpestre'' (Hartm.) Á. Löve and D. Löve.Descriptions, Illustrations, Identification, and Information Retrieval. NRC Research Press, National Research Council of Canada, Ottawa. )〕〔(Tela Botanica, Lycopodium annotinum L., Lycopode à rameaux annuels ) in French with photos, ecological information, and French distribution map〕
A new genus, ''Spinulum'' A. Haines, has been proposed for this and closely allied species, but phylogenetic analysis has shown that this small clade is very close to the ''Lycopodium clavatum'' clade.
